Since we sparked the Network as a Service revolution, we’ve grown and evolved our technology, our company, and our team. Check out some of the milestones that have gotten us to where we are today.
Megaport was founded in Australia by industry expert and entrepreneur Bevan Slattery (iSeek, PIPE Networks, NextDC, Asia Pacific Data Centre Trust, SubPartners, Superloop, Cloudscene) who aimed to create an SDN-based platform that gave customers access to elastic interconnection services, aligning these network services to cloud-based models. The vision was to give customers greater simplicity, control, and choice over how they connected to and between the services, applications, providers, and networks they needed for their businesses.
Asia Pacific Launch2014
Launched in Asia Pacific across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and Hong Kong. The Company started to build up its ecosystem of customers and service providers, striking partnerships with Microsoft Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud to enable users to build connections to world-class cloud services.
Listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX: MP1) in a successful IPO. Raised $25 million at $1.25 per share to help fund the Company’s growth strategy, which included hiring additional engineering and sales professionals and expanding our network operations in North America and Europe.

North America and Europe2016
Network expanded into North America and Europe reaching more customers worldwide and extending the capabilities of software defined networking globally. Acquired Peering GmbH, a leading peering company in Germany, and OM-NIX Group AD, adding 180 customers.

Capacity between Hong Kong and Los Angeles enabled, linking two major continents with direct connectivity. Partnerships with leading cloud providers IBM, Alibaba, and Oracle increased cloud onramps to 102. A partnership with Digital Realty (NYSE: DLR) launched Service Exchange, Powered by Megaport, providing customers with software defined interconnection capabilities across key Digital Realty data centres globally.

Megaport Cloud Router2018
Megaport Cloud Router (MCR) launched – a virtual routing service enabling customers to connect at Layer 3 to and between cloud services without the need for physical infrastructure. Megaport partnered with Salesforce, the world’s leading CRM company. The number of service providers on the Company’s ecosystem increased to over 300, and global enabled data centres to 386; the 1000th customer milestone was also reached within the year.

Japan and Beyond2019
Global footprint significantly expanded, reaching 552 enabled data centres in 102 cities across 21 countries. This included Megaport’s Japan launch, the country’s first Software Defined Network with a local presence. Global services grew 59% driven by customers adoption of multicloud, increasing Annualized Revenue by 68% to over $54 million. The Company partnered with leading hyperconverged infrastructure provider, Nutanix.

700+ Enabled Data Centres2020
Growth accelerates across the business – ports, services, and monthly recurring revenue all continue their rapid growth trajectories. The Company adds to its presence in Europe, launching in France and Denmark, taking the number of globally enabled data centres to 716. Megaport continues to add major service providers and customers to the network, constantly growing the ecosystem. MP1 included in the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index on 19 June 2020.

Megaport Virtual Edge2021
The Company supports more than 2,000 customers and launches Megaport Virtual Edge (MVE), an on-demand Network Function Virtualization (NFV) service that enables edge networking deployments on Megaport's global SDN. MVE is integrated with Cisco SD-WAN, enabling improved branch-to-cloud connectivity from a single pane of glass as well as Fortinet Secure SD-WAN. The Megaport platform is enabled in 24 countries.

Our Leadership Team
Chief Executive Officer & Director of the Board
Driving the success of Megaport, one of the world’s leading Network as a Service providers, Vincent English works at the forefront of innovation in the tech industry. His 15 years of combined international finance and operations experience in telecommunications, along with his ability to build high-performing teams, has seen Vincent become an influential figure in the connectivity space.
As the demand for interconnection to services and applications soars, Megaport is simplifying the enterprise’s cloud journey. Vincent continues to lead the global growth and expansion of the company.
Prior to joining Megaport, Vincent served as Chief Financial Officer for Digicel Group. He managed financial operations in multiple global markets and drove several major acquisitions for mobile businesses and TV operations. He is a member of ACMA, CPA Australia, and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Chief Financial Officer
An experienced CFO, Sean has over 15 years industry experience and joins Megaport after having spent two years as CFO at Blu Wireless Technology Limited in the UK. In the four years prior to that, Sean held CFO Commercial Operations and Senior Vice President Finance – Consumer Group roles at Cable & Wireless Communications in Miami, USA. Prior to joining Cable & Wireless, Sean held senior finance roles with Digicel Group in Jamaica and Marks and Spencer in the UK.
Chief Marketing Officer
Eric Troyer has more than 20 years of industry experience working in marketing strategy, business development, product management, and engineering.
Previously, Eric was Director of Network Edge and Interconnection Strategy at Microsoft where he led planning and engineering teams tasked with network expansion and IP capacity acquisition to scale Microsoft’s cloud strategy. Working at Equinix, he drove the Equinix Internet Exchange product to become the largest global IX platform and launched the company’s IPX product.
Eric played an integral part in founding the Global Peering Forum.
Chief People Officer
Melanie Vongswang, Chief People Officer, heads the global People and Culture team at Megaport. Melanie has more than 20 years’ international HR experience within the Technology, Accounting Software and Services, Business Process Outsourcing, and Airline industries.
Prior to joining Megaport, Melanie spent 8 years as CHRO with a global German organisation during which her span of responsibilities crossed 24 countries and over 50,000 employees. Her experience also includes working for Oracle Corporation as a Mergers and Acquisitions Specialist.
Melanie’s core expertise includes M & A skills, development of talent and performance strategies, plus the creation and deployment of award-winning international talent development programs. She holds a Masters’ degree in Strategic HRM and a Diploma from the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development. She is a member of the AHRI Institute, and also a Board Trustee for the Enable Trust which gives a stronger voice to pupils with complex, severe, multiple, and profound learning difficulties within the Educational context.
Chief Technology Officer
Jim Brinksma is Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for Megaport and has over 20 years of experience spanning the US Department of Defense, financial services, telecommunications, and technology startups. As CTO, Jim is responsible for supporting innovation, developing strategic technical relationships with vendors, partners, research & development organizations, and start-up communities, and delivering next generation products and services.
Jim’s previous roles include Co-founder & CTO of InnovoEdge (acquired by Megaport), VP of Strategy & Business Development at Ciena BluePlanet, VP of Sales Engineering & Customer Operations at Ciena, VP of Network Products & Strategy at Goldman Sachs, and 7+ years of service in the United States Navy.
Anna Tichborne leads the global legal activities at Megaport. She holds over fifteen years of corporate law experience working for large organisations in New Zealand and Australia. Her portfolio includes ASX listed companies, Transpacific Industries Group and Suncorp Group and the privately owned Ray White and Loan Market group of companies.
Anna’s experience spans various practice areas including corporate and M&A, competition and consumer, franchising, data protection and privacy, intellectual property, and more. She holds a Bachelor of Laws and is admitted as a lawyer to the Supreme Court of Queensland, the High Court of Australia and the High Court of New Zealand.
Chief Operating Officer
Darren Wilson leads the global operations teams at Megaport. A recognized leader in services and operations businesses, with over 25 years of experience, Darren has proven skills in the delivery and management of telecommunications products, services, projects, and teams. He has also excelled in the financial and project management of large and complex infrastructure deployments in the international arena. Darren has spent the last 15 years with Telstra International, Mandoe Media, and Firstwave providing the leadership and vision to establish critical operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures, and the best people and systems to effectively grow and financially strengthen these companies.
Darren is customer focussed, results-driven, and highly knowledgeable; he brings strong reasoning, great communication, and excellent interpersonal skills to his role to drive business change and transformation.
